Test Markup Language (TestML)

TESTML is a language independent from tools that was developed specifically for the exchange of test descriptions of the automotive industry. TestML is XML-based and addresses the exchange of tests between different test levels (module, integration and system tests), platforms (model in the loop, software in the loop, hardware in the loop) and between OEM and their suppliers. Besides describing strictly functional tests, different comparative approaches to testing such as regression tests and back to back tests are supported.
Our basic assumption is that semantic similarities or overlap exist between different description languages employed in test practice. In this context TESTML assumes the function of an intermediate notation that is interposed between the separate tool-dependent languages in the exchange of test data and test descriptions. TestML itself is based on simple semantics and a XML-based syntax and therefore well suited as an exchange format. The current version of the TestML schema document is available here.
